How is scrap gold value calculated?+
Scrap value = weight × (karat ÷ 24) × gold spot price per gram × dealer buyback rate. For example: 10g of 22K at $100/g spot with 92% buyback = 10 × 0.9167 × $100 × 0.92 = $843.36.
What buyback rate do gold dealers offer?+
Most dealers pay 85–95% of the gold's spot value. The spread compensates for refining costs and dealer margin. Specialist gold buyers and refiners tend to offer the highest rates.
How do I get the best price for scrap gold?+
Get quotes from at least 3 dealers. Know the current spot price (see the banner above). Weigh your gold yourself before visiting. Avoid pawn shops for gold — they typically offer the lowest rates.
Does the making charge affect scrap gold value?+
No. Scrap buyers pay only for the metal content, regardless of how much making charge you originally paid. Jewellery scrap value is always less than the purchase price.
What types of gold can I scrap?+
Broken jewellery, old earrings, mismatched pieces, chains, rings — anything hallmarked or verified gold. Gold-plated items have very little scrap value since the gold layer is minimal.
