How do I calculate the pure gold content of jewellery?+
Multiply the weight by (karat ÷ 24). Example: 15g of 18K gold = 15 × (18÷24) = 11.25g of pure gold.
How much pure gold is in 22K gold?+
22K gold is 91.67% pure. A 10g piece of 22K gold contains 9.167g of pure (24K) gold.
How much is 10g of 18K gold worth?+
10g of 18K gold contains 7.5g of pure gold. At today's spot price (see above), multiply 7.5 × spot price per gram.
What percentage of gold is 14K?+
14K gold is 58.33% pure gold (= 14 ÷ 24). The remaining 41.67% is base metals (typically copper and silver).
How do I verify the purity of gold at home?+
The acid test kit is the most accessible: acids of different concentrations react differently with gold alloys of varying karat. More accurately, a jeweller with an XRF machine can measure purity non-destructively.
