Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate gold profit?+
Multiply your gold weight × karat purity ratio × (sell price − buy price). For example, 10 grams of 22K gold bought at $85/g and sold at $95/g: 10 × 0.9167 × $10 = $91.67 profit.
What is the break-even sell price?+
Break-even = buy price. Any sell price above that results in profit; below it is a loss.
Does karat affect my profit calculation?+
Yes. 24K is pure gold (factor 1.0). 22K is 91.67% gold. Always apply the karat purity ratio to get the pure-gold content before calculating value.
Should I include dealer markup and taxes?+
For accurate realized profit, subtract any dealer buyback spread (typically 2–5% below spot) and applicable capital gains tax from your gross profit.
What is a good return on gold investment?+
Gold has historically returned ~7–8% per year on average (in USD). Short-term returns can vary widely with market conditions.
